Lam Chun Fai

Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai, the eldest son of the esteemed Grandmaster Lam Cho, was born in Hong Kong in 1940. Named by his great-uncle, Lam Sai Wing, he began his Hung Gar training at the age of five under the careful and strict guidance of his father. As a young man, he assisted his father in teaching kung fu and treating patients. Over time, he rose to become the chief instructor of four schools—two on Hong Kong Island and two on the Kowloon side, including the renowned Lam Sai Wing Physical Training School.

Like his father before him, Lam Chun Fai has dedicated his life to the practice and promotion of his family style. He is one ofthe most well known and respected Hung Kuen masters of our time.



Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai began his Hung Gar training at the age of five under the guidance of his father, Lam Cho. His childhood years were marked by strict discipline and structure. Between school and his studies, he followed his father’s strick guidance and practiced Kung Fu every day.He trained rigorously seven days a week, dedicating six hours each day (two hours in the morning, two in the afternoon, and two in the evening). In addition to learning Hung Kuen, Lam Chun Fai was also schooled in the art of dit da as well as traditional lion dancing. Being the eldest son of a famous father  was not always easy. He had the great resposibilty of represnting his father and their family legacy with his every action.

At the age of 16, Lam Chun Fai began assisting his father in teaching and soon became the chief instructor at four schools—two on Hong Kong Island and two on the Kowloon side, one of which was the renowned Lam Sai Wing Physical Training School.

At the age of 18, he opened his own Gung Fu school and Dit Da clinic in North Point on Hong Kong Island, where he continuedto teach Hung Kuen and treat patients to for decades to follow.

Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai has embraced the great responsibility of representing his family’s Gung Fu lineage and has dedicated his life to the promotion and advancement of Hung Gar. With years of firsthand experience, deep knowledge, and wisdom, he has spent decades teaching and spreading his family’s art of Hung Gar. Over the years, he has been frequently invited to give demonstrations, lead seminars, and teach private classes worldwide. Every year, students from across the globe travel to Hong Kong to train with Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai. Inspired by their master, some of his students have opened their own schools to teach and spread Hung Gar in their home countries.

Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai has also been invited to showcase his family’s Gung Fu at countless events, competitions, and performances worldwide. In 1985, he was invited by China to represent Hong Kong as a consultant for the International Wushu Invitational Tournament in Xi’an. The following year, in 1986, he returned for the second International Wushu Invitational Tournament in Tianjin, where he participated in the traditional Gung Fu competition. At this event, Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai performed Fu Hok Seung Ying Kyun and Seung Lung Dou, earning the award for the most distinctive performance and a gold medal.

In his ongoing efforts to teach and promote his family’s Hung Kuen style, Lam Chun Fai has authored several books with the help of his students. He has been featured in numerous publications, as well as TV and radio shows around the world.

Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai holds several prestigious positions, including President of the Lam Sai Wing Alumni Association, President of the China (HK) Traditional Wushu Federation, Vice President of the Hong Kong Wushu Union, Vice President of the China (HK) Wushu Sanda Association, and Acting President and Honorary Chairman of various Gung Fu associations in Hong Kong and globally.

Frequently invited to teach and spread the Lam family’s Hung Kuen, Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai travels extensively, sharing his expertise through demonstrations, seminars, and private classes in many countries.To this day, he remains dedicated to teaching and promoting Lam Family Hung Kuen, hoping that his family’s legacy will continue to grow and inspire students around the world.
